Based on an independent professional restoration needs assessment, Massie is undertaking a three year capital campaign to raise a million dollars to restore this historic school.
Why does Massie merit restoration?
- As Georgia’s oldest public school, Massie is the symbol of Savannah’s early commitment to public education.
- Nationally-acclaimed architect John S. Norris designed the historic structure.
- Massie School is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings and is seeking National Landmark designation.
- As Savannah’s teaching museum for history and architecture, Massie provides an important education program for students and visitors today.
- Massie has educated generation of Savannahians since its opening in 1856.
