Savannah’s Liberty Tree – Monument – Bloomingdale
Desdie Eberman, Massie Heritage Education teacher leads Bloomingdale fourth-graders through Monterey Square during Massie’s field trip program, Savannah’s Liberty Tree which utilizes Savannah’s monuments to teach about the American Revolution. Students will visit sites that commemorate Revolutionary events and figures.
A traditional May festival coordinated through the Massie Center, this program has been a Massie School event since the 1850s. Each year, elementary school children from the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools gather for this multicultural event to perform a variety of ethnic dances, in addition to the May Pole Dance, in Calhoun Square just in front of Massie School.
